Things to ask your doctor

  • What treatment, or treatments do you recommend for me?
  • How does the rate of side effects in this website compare to the rate of side effects in your practice?
  • How likely is my cancer to come back in the next 5 years or 10 years?  
    We have included a nomogram that will tell you your likelihood of being alive in the next 5 or 10 years. A nomogram is a computer model that uses information about your disease and treatment to compute an estimate of how likely you are to live over the next 5 to 10 years.

  • How frequently will I have to see a doctor after being treated?
  • Will I have to have more tests?
  • Who can I talk with about problems holding urine or with having erections after treatment?
  • Where can I find a support group?
  • Does my age, or current health, indicate any treatment that is better for me?

  • What is your most important goal for treatment? Possible choices could include: Curing the cancer, curing any symptoms you may have, having the best possible sexual performancee or having good bowel and bladder control.

    What do you like least about it?
  • What do you like most about external beam radiation?
    What do you like least about it?
  • What do you like most about internal seed radiation?
    What do you like least about it?
  • As you know, treatment choices include watchful waiting, surgery, external beam radiation and internal seed radiation. Which treatment choice are you leaning towards?
